Initially founded in 2003 by original directors Marcus and Kevin, Cool & Heat was a North West based Air Conditioning Company with a handful of engineers.
Several years later after the untimely death of Kevin, Marcus continued to run the business which was steadily growing its customer base. At a similar time, ACE Group was looking to further expand its portfolio after acquiring Airvane in 2010.
ACE Acquires Cool & Heat
In 2013, ACE Group successfully acquired Cool & Heat bringing new resources and opportunities which in turn would help Cool & Heat grow. The group had become a multifaceted operation with staff from several companies coming together to form one, with many different services ‘under one roof’.
In 2014 Cool and Heat achieved its first quality, environment and health and safety standards following an audit from IMSM and has since year on year maintained IS0 9001, 14001 and 18001/45001 as well as CHAS, SafeContractor and FGAS.
A Comprehensive HVAC and Installation Company
From 2015 onwards the focus of Cool & Heat shifted from a company dealing predominantly with Air Conditioning to a more comprehensive HVAC and installation company. Following this, in 2016 the group introduced a new software operating system to improve efficiency and management of jobs and the same year saw turnover for Cool & Heat exceed £1.5 Million.
Developing Our Team
2017 marked a year for developing career pathways within the business and an apprenticeship scheme was launched to assist budding entrance level engineers by studying a City and Guilds course whilst learning on the job. Cool & Heat further evolved to working with several significant Facilities Management Companies and providing additional service such as gas work, electricals and building work via preapproved and accredited subcontractors. This made the group a ‘one-stop shop’ for many of our customers who could rely on us to manage their projects from start to finish.
2018 was a year when sustainability and the circular economy was at the forefront of our customer’s minds and this influenced our policies, procedures and how Cool & Heat managed its projects. This meant less waste, recycling of materials, installation of more efficient products and better managing our own energy consumption.
Blue-Chip Clients
Last year due to a succession of contract awards from major blue-chip companies from retail, television and facilities management, Cool & Heat surpassed the £3.5 million turnover point. This was thanks to some incredibly hard work from all the Cool & Heat team which over the years has grown to over 40 employees.
In the latter half of last year, it was decided that a Gas Division would be introduced to cover the large amount of gas work that had previously been subcontracted and in early 2020 the group became Gas Safe accredited. This led to the appointment of our first Gas Safe Engineer and since the team has continued to grow. Despite the challenges 2020 has presented, Cool & Heat has continued to recruit staff including several midlands based remote engineers to meet demand. This has allowed for reduced response times and increased capacity and efficiency.
A New Identity
Whilst Cool & Heat has flourished as part of the ‘Under One Roof’ service that the group provides, 2021 will see the team take on its own identity with revamped branding and a new dedicated website and social media. This will allow for increased focus on the specific requirements unique to the HVAC industry and for developing more sustainable processes and introducing our customer’s to greener technologies such as heat source pumps, hybrid boilers and better ventilation.
In the future, we will endeavour to expand our services portfolio and continue to deliver industry-leading experience for our valued partners.
“The growth of Cool and Heat can be attributed to the Owners and Directors of the ACE Group bringing an ethos to the workforce to take a pride in what you do, to go the extra mile and to listen to the customer as well as empowering staff to flourish. We have built a cohesive team rather than a group of individuals and have found staff who share the same ethics and goals. Being adaptable and prepared to change is also key, as industry requirements, legislation and new technologies evolve we need to change our focus to products such as heat pumps and ground source heating. This vision will continue the longevity of the company and to combine this with the best team available within the industry only strengthens the company. All of the vision above is needed with a large dose of hard work from the Owners, Directors and Colleagues.”
