The Challenge:  Comfort cooling and heating for multi storey dental practice

As part of a £1.2million makeover, facilities maintenance services specialists S&H Group have totally refurbished a three-story building in Blackburn to create 16 dental treatment rooms for use by Europe’s largest dental care provider, MyDentist. They called in HVAC professionals Cool & Heat to design and install an air conditioning system capable of providing individual cooling and heating for each of the treatment rooms, with a focus on efficiency and economy.

The Solution

The team from Cool & Heat put together a specification that looked to minimise the number of external condensing units, with the objective of reducing power consumption, electrical costs and future maintenance costs.

With three floors of the building to service, the design is based on serving a number of individual spaces using a larger system, with each space retaining control of on/off and level functionality. Each system provides both heating and cooling options to match seasonal requirements.

Each floor has two Midea multi-split systems, with Midea wall-mounted indoor units to provide heating and cooling throughout the building, using a combination of single split cassettes and multi-split systems dependent upon the application and environment. Midea multi-split air conditioning systems are convenient and economical as well as quiet and energy-efficient, providing versatile and space-saving solutions.

The project included the supply and installation of all equipment, refrigerant piping/insulation, and interconnecting wiring as well as condensate management, with drain pumps installed for all areas of the system not controlled by gravity.

“The solutions delivered by the Cool & Heat team matched the operational requirements of the practice and the building effectively and accurately, with attention to detail in terms of economy, aesthetics and performance.”

Installed and commissioned to schedule

Each system was individually pressure tested to BS EN 378 standards and commissioned to manufacturers’ requirements, complete with full electronic reporting including Fgas, commissioning and job sheet. The project was completed in several phases in line with the refurbishment of the building, all on time, to schedule and to budget, and is now up and running reliably for this new MyDentist practice.
